It’s no secret how big a fan we are about delegating, afterall it is our core service. Zirtual’s founder Maren Kate realized early on how she could scale her productivity through the power of delegation. It helped launch her early Etsy jewelry business and shaped Zirtual into the business it is today.
What’s not always clear is how some industries can benefit from delegation. For example, how might a creative type take advantage of delegation?
Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch recently sat down with FastCompany for a profile where he revealed his secret to managing his ever growing daily to-do list: delegation.
When asked about time the time constraints that come coupled with increased success Cumberbatch had this to say:
“I started to delegate about a year and a half ago. It was the best thing I’ve ever done. I thought I was capable of running the whole circus, and I’m really not.”
That point in time when a person realizes they need to turn to delegation can be magical, and his does not fail to deliver.
“Oh my God. I was about to go on this ridiculous weekend with this guy with a private jet and other friends, kind of a once-in-a-lifetime thing, and then I got a call literally on the tarmac going, ‘Umm, so where are you? We’re about to do the photo shoot.’ I was like, ‘Oh, f*ck!’”
Cumberbatch goes on to discuss how he’s tackled email to achieve inbox zero.
“I’ve done this thing recently of flagging a lot of emails, and so I’ve built up this count that is, to me, like, Uh-oh, it’s in that territory of panic, like 120. But what I realized is that those things can carry on without me sometimes.”
No matter your career field, delegation should be a part of your plan to success, serving as the practice allowing you to become your best self. Delegating not only saves time but allows you to make more money by increasing your available hours for closing new prospects, meeting with more partners, or creating more product.
